We don’t need more political talk, more reports on climate change and unstable financial markets, more reports on resource depletion and pollution. We need tangible local initiatives – and this book shows they exist.
This 4th CROSSTALKS book documents 100 tangible local initiatives from all over the world that fit into a constructive and holistic movement for social and ecological change. Drawing from a pool of personally driven research and bottom-up projects, the book singles out 100 cases in different, yet interrelated domains. Muziekonderwijs in oorlogsgebieden, een passiefdorp in Waals-Brabant, een poldermoskee in Nederland, carpooling voor goederen en een drijvende tuin die waterlopen zuivert… Het zijn slechts enkele van de talloze projecten waarmee creatievelingen van over de hele wereld zowel op sociaal als ecologisch vlak een verschil willen maken. Hun ideeën werden gebundeld in het nieuwste Crosstalks-boek We can change the weather – 100 cases of changeability, uitgegeven bij VUBPRESS. Of hoe vele kleintjes een groot maken.
Duurzame ontwikkeling, ecologische rampen en de hele klimaatdiscussie zijn momenteel hot topics in de media. Vaak wordt benadrukt dat het om een globaal, wereldwijd probleem gaat. Maar zelden wordt hieraan toegevoegd dat iedere mens een stukje van de oplossing in handen heeft. Dankzij een hele resem kleinschalige bottom up-projecten en vernieuwende ideeën kunnen we wel degelijk een verschil maken. Het boek bevat bijdragen van onder meer architect Rem Koolhaas, striptekenaar François Schuiten, componist Walter Hus, poolreiziger Dixie Dansercoer en designer Philippe Starck en wordt officieel voorgesteld op dinsdag 21 september 2010 om 19u in Recyclart, Ursulinenstraat 25 in 1000 Brussel.
De persvoorstelling wordt gevolgd door een Pecha Kucha-avond, waar verschillende van de auteurs van het boek aan het woord komen rond het thema Design September.
