Is the Innovation Society sustainable? The authors argue that the way in which our society organizes its innovation
processes generates endogenous crises, and the ideology that sustains this organization makes it difficult to
confront this meta-crisis economically or politically. They claim that the key to constructing a socially sustainable
future is the mobilization of civil society, with respect to two new forms of innovation policy. ICT will play a
crucial role in the process of mobilization and the implementation of these new policy forms.
The paper is the starting point of a discussion that took place in January 2012 at a seminar organised at the Institute of Living Technology (University Ca’ Foscari Venice). The title is ‘Mobilizing civil society to construct a socially sustainable future’. It gathered academics, civil society leaders and opinion makers to explore how to build a narrative and a strategy to implement this vision. You can find more information about this seminar here.
