For Indians, the Bhagavad Gita, which can be translated “The song of the Lord”, is the equivalent of The Iliad & The Odysseus for westerners. It constitutes the central part of the Mahabharata, which is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, revered in Hinduism. It is set in a narrative framework of dialogue between the Pandava prince and warrior Arjuna and his charioteer guide Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu.

At the start of the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, Arjuna despairs thinking about the violence and death the war will cause in the battle against his kin and becomes emotionally preoccupied with a dilemma. Wondering if he should renounce the war, Arjuna seeks the counsel of Krishna, whose answers and discourse constitute the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna counsels him to « fulfil his warrior duty » for the upholding of “dharma”, i.e. the behaviors or virtues that are in harmony with the order that sustains life. Inscriptions

The Krishna–Arjuna dialogue covers a broad range of spiritual topics, touching upon moral and ethical dilemmas, and philosophical issues that go far beyond the war that Arjuna faces. The setting of the text in a battlefield has been interpreted as an allegory for the struggles of human life.

Together with Laurent Ledoux, Simone Rave has developed a conscious leadership program in which the teachings of western leadership (mainly inspired by Harvard’s professor Ronald Heifetz) are merged with those of the Bhagavad Gita.

In their dialogue, they will share the main lessons from the Bhagavad Gita to help us become more conscious leaders in these troubled and challenging times.
